What began as owner George Naim’s hobby on a rocky plateau in the forested mountain above the town of Khirbet Qanafar is now a family-owned enterprise: Château Qanafar, producing just 12,000 bottles a year from vineyards accessible only by 4-wheel-drive vehicles. Visitors who book in advance can look forward to being picked up by the owner and given wine tastings right out of the barrels and fermenters, sure to enliven the winery’s fantastic view of Lake Qaraoun.
This boutique winery has racked up considerable prestige in its relatively short history of winemaking, winning a gold for its 2010 Chateau Qanafar from Gilbert & Gaillard in 2014, a bronze for the same wine in the same year by Femmes et Vins du Monde, and inclusion in the Gilbert & Gaillard Gold Medal Club 90+ in 2015 for its 2011 Chateau Qanafar.

To reach the winery from Chtaura, take the road towards Qab Elias and Kefraya. From the checkpoint in Kefraya, continue straight for about another two kilometers. You can park your car at Beit el-Kataeb (recognized by its rectangle cedar tree logo) located on the right. The owner will pick you up from here.
