The Crusader Castle

Built by the Crusaders in the 12th century over the remains of Roman structures, Byblos castle is an immense and formidable testament to the city’s rich cultural history of sieges and conquests. The castle is located in the archeological site near the port and you can get a tour of its surroundings and its interior.  Views from the parapet of the sea and the surrounding historical preserve are not to be missed.

 

Other historically iconic structures stand nearby the castle, such as a few Egyptian temples, the Phoenician Royal Necropolis, and the Roman amphitheater.
