Doubeih Fortress

Next to the village of Shakra w Doubeih, Bin Jbeil District, on a hill with impressive, sweeping vistas, the strong arches of the Doubeih Fortress continue to defy the ravages of time.

The Crusaders built Doubeih on the remains of a Roman temple, as evidenced by the large stone blocks and the rock-cut tombs next to it. Israeli bombing has destroyed much of the old fort, but the remaining first and second floors boast some thirty rooms and several wells that simply refuse to give up the ghost.
